Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Automaitions collects, why we hold it, who else can see it and how you get it back or get rid of it. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and this page is written to be checked against them.

The short version, and you can verify most of it yourself with a browser’s developer tools: this website has no database, no accounts, no analytics, no advertising pixel and no cookies. It stores nothing about you, on our side or in your browser. What we hold is what you chose to put in an email to us.

1.1 The words the law uses

Personal information — information or an opinion about an identified individual, or one who is reasonably identifiable, whether or not it is true and whether or not it is recorded. Sensitive information — a narrower class including health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, sexual orientation and criminal record, which attracts higher protection. Collection, use and disclosure have the meanings given to them in the Privacy Act.

1.2 The words we use

The Site — automaitions.com.au and every page on it. We and us — Automaitions, meaning Jett and Beau; there is nobody else. You — anyone who reads the Site or emails us. A build — a website project you have hired us for.

In practice, for a two-person website studio, it is a short list: your name, your business name, your email address, your phone number, your website address, and whatever you told us about the business when you asked for a price.

We do not ask for and do not want sensitive information. If you send us any — in a message, or inside content you want on your site — we hold it only for as long as the build needs it and we do not use it for anything else.

This Site sells websites to businesses. It is not directed at anyone under 18, we do not knowingly collect information about children, and there is nothing here to sign up to. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

4.1 Nothing is collected by the Site itself

There is no server-side code on this Site. Every form on it — the contact form, the free teardown box in the footer — does the same thing: it takes what you typed, writes it into an email, and opens your own mail app with that email ready to send. Nothing leaves your device until you press send in your own mail client, and nothing is written to a database because there is no database.

If you close that email without sending it, we never see it and there is no record of it anywhere.

4.2 What the contact form composes

The enquiry form on our contact page writes these fields into the email, and only these:

• Your name.
• Your business name.
• Your email address and phone number.
• Your current website address, if you have one.
• What you have now and roughly what you want to spend.
• What you told us you need.

The free teardown form composes one field: the website address you want us to look at.

4.3 What we collect during a build

Once you hire us, we collect what the work needs and no more: the logo files, photography, copy and brand colours you send us; access to a domain registrar, host or Google Business Profile where you have given it to us; and the billing details needed to invoice you. Access we are given is used for the build and handed back.

4.4 Server logs

Our host keeps standard web-server logs — IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser string — the same records every web server on the internet keeps to serve a page and stay up. We do not query them to build a profile of anyone and we do not join them to anything else.

5.1 Answering an enquiry

So one of the two of us can read what you sent, reply the same day and send you a price. That is the only reason an enquiry exists.

5.2 Doing the work

Building, launching and — if you are on a care plan — maintaining your site.

5.3 The free teardown

To record the teardown of the address you gave us and send it back. You keep it whether you hire us or not, and we do not add you to anything for having asked.

5.4 Getting paid, and the records we have to keep

Invoicing, and keeping the business records Australian law requires us to keep.

5.5 Everything else — which is nothing

There is no newsletter list. We do not profile you, do not score you, do not build advertising audiences from you and do not run automated decision-making over anything you send us. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone, for any price.

An enquiry that does not become a build: we keep the email thread while it is a live conversation and delete it when it plainly is not. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will, that day.

A build: for as long as we are working on it, and afterwards for as long as we are required to keep the business records — currently five years for financial records under Australian tax law. Assets you sent us that the site no longer needs get deleted at handover if you ask.

A care plan: for as long as the plan runs, and 30 days after it ends.

The honest answer is: two people, and the two companies that carry the pipes.

7.1 Inside the studio

Jett and Beau. There is no third person, no contractor pool, no offshore team and no sales staff. The person who reads your enquiry is the person who builds the site.

7.2 Hosting

This Site is hosted by Vercel Inc. and served from their Sydney region. They hold the server logs described in article 4.4. They do not hold anything you type, because nothing you type is ever sent to them.

7.3 Email

Mail for automaitions.com.au is handled by Google. Anything you email us therefore sits in a Google-hosted mailbox, the same as almost every business email in Australia.

7.4 Fonts

The Site loads its two typefaces from Google Fonts and Fontshare. Loading a font means your browser makes a request to those services, and a request carries your IP address and browser string. That is the complete list of third parties this Site contacts — there is no analytics script, no tag manager, no pixel, no chat widget and no embedded video.

7.5 When we are required to

We will disclose personal information where Australian law requires it, and not otherwise.

The Site is served from Sydney, but Vercel and Google are United States companies and their infrastructure spans several countries. Using this Site or emailing us may therefore involve your information being stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union.

We name them here rather than hiding it behind “our trusted partners” because Australian Privacy Principle 8 asks us to, and because you cannot judge a risk you have not been told about.

The Site is served over HTTPS only. Our accounts carry two-factor authentication. Client assets and access credentials live in our own accounts, not on shared drives, and access we are given to your systems is removed when it is no longer needed.

No system is perfect and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affected your information in a way likely to cause you serious harm, we would notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

10.1 Seeing what we hold

Ask, and we will tell you what we have about you and send it to you. There is no fee and no form to fill in.

10.2 Correcting it

If something we hold is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.

10.3 Deleting it

Ask us to delete what we hold and we will, except for anything we are legally required to keep — and we will tell you exactly what that is and why.

10.4 Being left alone

Ask us to stop contacting you and we stop. There is no list to unsubscribe from because there is no list.

10.5 Complaining

Complain to us first — team@automaitions.com.au — and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how we handled it, you can take the complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

11.1 What a cookie is

A small file a site asks your browser to store so it can recognise the browser later. It is the mechanism behind logins, shopping carts, analytics and most advertising tracking.

11.2 What this Site sets

None. No cookies, no local storage, no session storage, no fingerprinting. There is no consent banner on this Site because there is nothing to consent to, and putting one up to look diligent would be theatre.

You can confirm it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools on any page here and look at the storage tab. It is empty.

This policy covers automaitions.com.au only. A site we build for a client is the client’s site, published under the client’s own privacy policy, and once it is handed over they control what runs on it. If a build needs analytics, a booking system or a payment provider, we tell the client what that means for their visitors before it goes on.

We update this page when what we actually do changes — not on a schedule, and never retroactively to cover something we already did. The date at the top is the date of the version you are reading.
